What is LRT and why did the City choose this technology for its rapid transit network?
Light Rail Transit (or LRT) is a rail technology that can function on both grade separated track and track run on roadways that are shared with other vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This added flexibility means that LRT is well suited to Ottawa’s need for a system that can accommodate both high passenger volume in the core and lower volume further out as future LRT extensions are implemented.
