FAQ

When will LRT be expanded to the suburbs?

The Transportation Master Plan lays out the direction for the City’s transportation planning. This document is updated every five years, most recently in 2008. The 2008 TMP update laid out an LRT implementation plan stretching from Blair Road station to Baseline Station and from Bayview station to the Riverside South town centre. It also examined the possibility of a supplementary LRT corridor along Carling. Future decisions about how and when the City’s LRT system will be expanded will be made as part of the 2013 TMP update.

Cost and ridership demand are the two critical issues that will determine when it’s the most efficient time to make the conversion from Bus Rapid Transitways in those communities to LRT routes. In the meantime, suburban and rural Ottawa will still benefit from improved local buses and Bus Rapid Transit connections to the LRT system.
